Paralegal/Legal Assistant roles available for high calibre candidates (part-time/self-employed)

New Temple Chambers is a commercial barristers’ chambers committed to recruiting people of the highest calibre as this is fundamental to the continued success of chambers.  Chambers situated in The Gherkin at 30 St Mary’s Axe in the City of London. 

Chambers is currently seeking an extremely hard working and committed paralegal/legal assistant on a self employed basis. The role will involve a wide spectrum of paralegal/legal assistant duties under supervision with a particular focus on legal research as well as assisting with administrative/marketing tasks. A keen interest in the following areas of law (or any of the following areas listed below) will be an advantage:

– Construction, engineering and infrastructure 

– Commercial litigation

– Professional negligence

– Commercial

– Property 

– Technology & IT 

– Energy

– International law

Person Specification

  • Must be extremely hard working
  • Must be smart in appearance and well presented
  • Keen interest in the work carried out by chambers is essential, coupled with a real desire to succeed
  • Flexible and self-motivated, with a mindset to succeed in a dynamic, supportive and innovative environment
  • Ability to prioritise work effectively and to meet deadlines
  • Excellent communication skills both oral and written
  • Excellent IT abilities (Microsoft Office including Word, PowerPoint, Excel etc)
  • Flexibility and commitment
  • A willingness to learn
  • Strong attention to detail with a methodical and logical approach
  • Excellent organisational and administrative skills
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality of information with discretion, diplomacy and professionalism
  • Must possess the ability to use sound judgment, manage changing priorities, meet strict deadlines and multi-task
  • Ability to interact effectively with members of Chambers and staff at all levels
  • Must be flexible as the work will generally be carried out during office and non-office hours during the week (i.e. after 6pm in the evenings) and some weekends.
  • May involve travel outside throughout the UK and in those circumstances, all reasonable travel costs would be reimbursed.Ex

Duties

Typical duties under supervision might include:

  • Carrying out legal research work for articles, chambers publications, ongoing and contemplated legal proceedings. 
  • Note taking and taking minutes in meetings.
  • Assisting with preparation of draft copies of talks/PowerPoint slides for chambers talks and presentations, articles and publications etc. 
  • Preparing draft case summaries.
  • Assist with preparation of documents for court and other proceedings.
  • Preparing bundles for ongoing or contemplated legal proceedings.
  • Document management and production.
  • Filing of documents, correspondence and other documentation.
  • Scheduling and compiling documents.
  • Photocopying and scanning.
  • Assisting with the set up of the boardroom/conference rooms for meetings and talks etc.
  • Administrative tasks/Marketing tasks.
  • Any other duties as directed and the duties are subject to change dependent on New Temple Chambers requirements. 

Additional Information

  • Minimum academic requirements: University degree or studying at degree level (including LLB, BA, BVC, BPTC, LPC, SQE)
  • Start Date: As soon as possible.
  • Location: Central London
